Veteran Services
Veteran Documents
Here are resources for veteran services in New York City. All personnel who served in uniform receive documentation of service upon discharge. The form is called the DD-214, and it contains the discharge status: honarable discharge, general discharge, etc. The type of discharge can detemine what benefits veterans are eligible for. When someone requests a DD-214 form, it is usually to find out/verify their discharge status. Here are some resources:
- General information on types of military discharge
- Veterans Service Records: Request a copy of your DD-214
- Correcting Military Service Records: Apply to correct your service record or to have your discharge/dismissal reviewed
Military Reserve Services
The Reserve Officer Association offers free legal information for reservists. You can contact them at the Service Members Law Center. They are not a law firm, but they can help you learn more about the laws relevant to reservists.
Veteran Health Benefits
Veteran health benefits are provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), but you can also access them through New York State Division (VETSNYS).
